CHICAGO⯗ Today, Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Mayor’s Office of Community Safety, and the Mayor’s Office of Health and Human Services are hosting Work, Wellness and a Safer Chicago: A People’s Plan Hiring and Resource Eventat Malcolm X College.
Building on the administration’s efforts to expand opportunities for economic mobility, the hiring fair connects Chicago residents to hundreds of job openings while offering career pathway guidance and readiness support services.
“Safe communities are built on opportunity,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “When we connect residents to the resources they need to succeed, we are investing in safer neighborhoods today and a stronger Chicago for generations to come.
By expanding pathways to employment and economic mobility, we are ensuring every Chicagoan has the opportunity to contribute their talents, support their family, and build a brighter future.”
The event was made possible through collaboration with City Colleges of Chicago, Chi Cook Workforce Partnership, Illinois Department of Employment Security, and SERCO.
In addition to facilitating conversations between employers and potential applicants, the hiring fair offers on-site interviews, and access to career and technical education pathways which lead to well-paying jobs.
In 2025, People’s Plan Hiring Events welcomed over 3,100 attendees.
Event Highlights include:
Mock interviews;
Resume support;
Financial education;
Free professional headshots;

Information on upcoming career and hiring events.
The events create a pipeline of better-prepared candidates and an opportunity to engage local talent early while addressing workforce needs. For job seekers, the opportunities are an entry point to build confidence, understand workplace expectations, and connect to both immediate job openings and long-term career pathways.
“Every Chicagoan deserves the opportunity to access meaningful work and build a path toward economic mobility,” said Jonah Anderson, First Deputy Mayor for Health & Human Services. “Through partnerships like these, we are creating stronger connections between residents, employers, and the resources that help people succeed. This hiring event demonstrates what is possible when government, community organizations, and the private sector work together to expand opportunity and invest in the talent that exists in every neighborhood across our city.”
People’s Plan Job Readiness Fairs and Hiring Events are an initiative under the Economic Opportunity and Upward Mobility pillar of the People’s Plan for Community Safety.
The initiative supports equitable access to employment while strengthening local talent pipelines for employers while increasing access to opportunities for economic mobility.
”Opening doors to stable employment is one of the most powerful ways we can create real lasting change in our communities,” said Deputy Mayor of Community Safety Emmanuel Andre.“As we continue to come together across government, the private sector, and community serving organizations to address the limitations to accessing those opportunities, we are building a network of support across our city.
The Mayor’s Office of Community Safety will continue partnering with individuals and organizations to invest in work readiness programs and access to employment.”
The initiative centers the connection between public safety, economic opportunity, and upward mobility as the Johnson administration works to ensure the benefits of economic growth reach every Chicagoan.
The events provide a strong foundation for families to build upon through access to sustainable employment which offers a living wage, wraparound support services, and workforce readiness programming.
”Creating a safer, stronger, and more equitable Chicago requires connecting residents to opportunity,” said Trenity Dobbey, Director of Workforce Development, Mayor’s Office of Health & Human Services. “This event reflects the power of collaboration between employers, workforce organizations, and community partners working together to expand access to family-sustaining careers.
Whether someone is entering the workforce, changing careers, or rebuilding after a setback, our goal is clear: ensure every Chicagoan has a fair opportunity to work, grow, and thrive.“
